It's Shroom Season

October 01, 2026 Plantd Skincare

After a good rain, mushrooms show up like magic overnight. One day the forest floor is bare, the next it's covered in fungi nobody planted. People have been harvesting that overnight magic for a very long time, and three of those finds, cordyceps, chaga, and tremella, are the backbone of our Renewal Night Cream.

Tremella has a nickname: the beauty mushroom. Chinese herbalists have used it for over 2,000 years, and legend credits it as a beauty secret of Yang Guifei, one of the Tang Dynasty's most celebrated beauties. Modern labs have caught up to the legend. Tremella's polysaccharides hold water almost like hyaluronic acid does, which is why we pair the two directly in this formula rather than picking one.

Chaga has a different kind of history. For centuries, Siberian communities have simmered it into tea, calling it a gift from heaven, using it daily rather than saving it for when something went wrong. It turns out chaga is also one of the richest natural sources of superoxide dismutase, an antioxidant enzyme your skin already makes to protect itself.

Cordyceps comes from higher ground, the Tibetan plateau, where it's been used in traditional medicine since at least the 1400s to restore energy and resilience. In skin, early studies suggest it does something similar at a cellular level, giving skin a boost of energy right when it's doing the most repair work, overnight.

The exact complex we use is grown in Finland, known for its clean air and soil that lacks harmful pollutants, and blended directly with hyaluronic acid. In clinical testing, a cream with this complex increased skin moisture by 40% after just one hour and was still measuring over 20% higher a full week later, while also reducing water loss through the skin.

Round it out with jojoba, rosehip and evening primrose oils for good measure, and you've got a cream built on fungi, folklore, and a bit of Nordic clean air.
